HISTORY OF APRIL FOOLS&39; DAY

There’s no consensus on how it all began, but a popular theory is that while nowadays, January 1 is when we start the new year, this wasn’t the case before 1592. We used a calendar called the Julian calendar – created by Julius Caesar in 45 BC – which saw every new year begin on April 1!

Pope Gregory the 8th created a new method for keeping track of days, which was the start of the calendar we all know and love – the Gregorian calendar. When he moved the date of New Year’s Eve it obviously took some time for everyone to catch on to it. Those who were a bit behind the times still celebrated on April 1, and were considered fools for doing so.

There are many ways to celebrate April Fools’ Day. Some common traditions include:

1/ Playing pranks on friends and family: This might involve hiding objects and then pretending to have lost them, pretending to have a fake injury, or creating a fake news story to trick someone.

2/ Sending prank emails or making prank phone calls: This is a popular way to celebrate April Fools’ Day, especially in the workplace.

WHAT ARE THE REACTIONS OF PEOPLE BEING PULLED PRANKS?

A new survey asked people how they react when someone pulls a prank on them. So here are the six big reactions：

1. Smile and say, “That was a good one” . . . 45% of people do this.

2. Prank them back, 31%.

4. Keep a poker face and don’t give them the satisfaction of a reaction, 7%.
